Against the Ropes
Against the Ropes is the safe and convenient story of the underdog manager and fighter duo, played by Meg Ryan (Sleepless in Seattle) and Omar Epps (Love & Basketball). Charles S. Dutton directs and stars as the wise old Mr. Miyagi of boxing.
It seems Meg Ryan's recent stream of box office mediocrity won't be broken by Against the Ropes. Her stardom, earned for friendly, girl-next-door type roles, does not quite fit in this role.
Loosely inspired by the true story of a female boxing manager, Against the Ropes fails to surprise. Watch out for the knockout punch. You can see this one coming. Duck away from Against the Ropes.
