Jersey Girl Review Formula = Kevin Smith - His Peter Pan Complex + (Ben - Jen)

Jersey Girl is a romantic comedy from Kevin Smith, the movie making king of New Jersey. He earned this title through consistency in his themes, plot lines, characters, and actors.

Fans of the Kevin Smith formula, beware. Jersey Girl doesn't really have much in common with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Clerks, or any of his other movies in between. Ben Affleck, who has been in a string of Kevin Smith movies, stars as Ollie Trinke, an NYC publicist. His girlfriend, played Jennifer Lopez, gives birth to their child and dies soon after.

Now before the readers go wild with the metaphoric death of the Ben and Jen romance, think of the child involved. Ok, now have that chuckle. Don't say Gigli. Don't even think it. Ben's got to raise a baby girl, so he moves back in with his father, played by George Carlin (Big fans of Kevin Smith will remember his memorable free ride procuring tactics in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).

Back in Jersey and many years later, Ben falls in love with a video store clerk played by Liv Tyler, and Jersey Girl is all about Ben's new romance and raising his little girl.

Really the only thing that Jersey Girl has in common with the other Kevin Smith movies are characters that do not want to grow up, which is ironic, in that the director himself seems to have grown up.
